Why Choose RooterMan for Excavation

We dig. That's the simple version. The longer version is that we handle excavation work for sewer lines, water lines, utility installations, foundations, grading, and site prep across Rhode Island. We know the soil conditions here, we know the permit process, and we know where to call before we dig so we don't hit a gas line or a fiber optic cable.

Excavation isn't something you want done twice because someone cut corners the first time. We bring the right equipment for the scope of the job, we dig to spec, and we put everything back the way it should be when we're done. Backfill, compaction, grading, all of it. You don't get a hole in your yard and a handshake.

Professional Excavation in Rhode Island

Excavation covers a lot of ground, literally. Some jobs are a 4-foot trench across a backyard to replace a sewer line. Others are a full site dig for a new foundation or a utility run that needs to cross under a driveway. The scope changes, but the fundamentals don't: dig safely, dig accurately, protect existing utilities, and restore the site when the work is done.

We handle excavation for homes and businesses across Rhode Island, including Providence, Warwick, Cranston, Pawtucket, Johnston, East Providence, and surrounding areas. We coordinate utility locates (DigSafe), pull permits when required, and work with inspectors to make sure everything passes on the first check.

What we excavate for:

Signs You Need Excavation

Sometimes the only way to fix it is to dig it up.

Your Sewer or Water Line Needs Replacement

If a camera inspection showed a collapsed, cracked, or deteriorated pipe that can't be fixed with trenchless methods, someone has to dig down to the pipe and swap it out. That's excavation. The depth, length of the run, and what's on top of the pipe (driveway, landscaping, concrete) all factor into the scope of the dig.

You're Adding a New Utility Connection

Building an addition, converting a garage, putting in an ADU, or running a new water or sewer line to a part of the property that doesn't have one. All of these need a trench dug to code depth with proper bedding and connections at both ends.

You're Building Something That Needs a Foundation

New construction, home additions, detached garages, retaining walls, any structure that sits on a foundation starts with excavation. If your contractor needs a hole dug to spec, we're the ones who dig it.

Your Property Has Drainage Problems

Water pooling against the foundation, a yard that floods every time it rains, or a driveway that washes out. These problems usually need regrading, French drains, or new catch basins, all of which require excavation to install.

A Utility Company Flagged a Line on Your Property

If the gas company, water authority, or city inspector told you a line on your property needs to be accessed, repaired, or replaced, you need someone to dig to it. We coordinate with the utility provider and handle the excavation so the line can be serviced.

Common Questions About Excavation Services

Clear answers so you know what to expect before scheduling our service.

How much does excavation cost in Rhode Island?

It depends on the depth, length of the dig, soil conditions, what's on the surface (lawn vs. concrete vs. driveway), and whether permits and utility locates are needed. A short trench in an open backyard costs a lot less than a deep dig under a paved driveway. We do a site visit and give you a detailed estimate before any work starts.

How long does an excavation job take?

Small utility trenches can be done in a day. Sewer line replacement excavation usually takes 1 to 3 days. Foundation digs and site prep vary depending on the size of the project, anywhere from a few days to a week or more. We'll give you a timeline after the site assessment so you can plan around it.

Do you handle permits?

Yes. We pull the necessary permits from the city or town, coordinate DigSafe utility locates, and schedule inspections when required. You don't have to deal with any of that.

Will you fix my yard after the excavation?

We backfill the trench with proper material, compact it, and grade the surface so drainage works correctly. We restore the grade to match the surrounding area. If the dig went through a lawn, we'll leave it ready for seeding or sod. Replacing hardscaping like concrete, pavers, or asphalt is handled on a case-by-case basis and we'll include it in the estimate if it applies to your job.

Can you excavate in tight spaces or near existing structures?

Yes. We use compact equipment for jobs in tight yards, close to foundations, or near existing utility lines. Not every excavation requires a full-size backhoe. We match the equipment to the space and the scope so we can dig safely without damaging anything around the work area.
